About Events

The Dunhuang Half Marathon, established in 2015, takes place in Dunhuang, one of the most legendary oasis cities along the ancient Silk Road. Blending history, desert landscapes, and world-famous cultural heritage, it offers one of China's most distinctive destination races. The course begins on modern city streets before, after the first seven kilometers, entering the vast Gobi Desert. Runners are surrounded by rolling sand dunes, dramatic Yardang landforms, and the breathtaking scenery that has defined Dunhuang for centuries. The route culminates near the iconic Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Spring, where golden dunes meet a tranquil desert oasis in one of China's most celebrated landscapes. Beyond race day, participants can explore Dunhuang's remarkable cultural treasures, with complimentary or discounted access to major attractions, including the world-famous Mogao Caves, making the event an unforgettable combination of running, history, and Silk Road adventure.
